We offer four different food assistance programs:
1. TEFAP (Temporary Emergency Food Assistance Program) : This is what the older generation called “commodities”. We refer to it as the USDA program. The food is provided by the Federal Government and we distribute it based on their guidelines. The amount we receive each month is based on what we distributed the prior month. It is distributed on two days a month. Click here for a calendar of upcoming dates.
2. CSFP (Commodities Supplemental Food Program) : This is what we refer to as the SENIOR BOX program. The food comes pre-packaged and is also provided by the Federal Government and we distribute it based on their guidelines. We have a limited number of boxes available each month. We maintain both a Master and Waiting list for this program. It is distributed on two days a month. Click here for a calendar of upcoming dates.
3. Food Pantry – This is the food donated by churches, individuals, Piggly Wiggly, the Harvest and Dollar General Market. Occasionally, we purchase food for this program from Feeding America for a reduced rate. We distribute based on guidelines set by our Board of Directors. Those qualified for the USDA or Senior Box programs will receive this program on those days also. Those not qualified for the government sponsored programs may receive this on any day other than those distribution days.
4. Extra Pantry – This is an additional service available to everyone who qualifies for any of our other food programs and is updated. It is limited by what-ever we have extras of, including meats. It includes the Wal-Mart/Feeding America program donations as well as other donations. It is received in addition to any of the other programs. |

Logan County Good Samaritan runs several different food assistance programs. Each program requires different documentation and verifications. In the past, we have combined all these requirements and then determined which programs a client is qualified for. We still believe this is the best way possible to help those in need and we plan to continue to do so. |
