12/3/11 - The VITA program is gearing up and we are getting ready for another great year of helping people with their taxes for free! So far, we have 3 people training as tax preparers. Two are returning and one is new this year. We are still in need of greeters for Fridays and/or Saturdays from 10 AM to 4 PM. If you are interested in volunteering for either position, please contact us as soon as possible. 4/29/11 - Beginning in May, TEFAP (USDA) distribution will be limited to 2 days a month. The first distribution days will be Monday May 16th and Tuesday May 17th. A schedule for the rest of the year is available at the office. Requirements for pickup include a current ID, a current bill or other mail showing correct address and meet the income guidelines. Permission slips will be required if picking up for someone else. Anyone needing food whose household is under the income limits are encouraged to come in on these days and pick up. If you cannot carry a couple of grocery bags, please try to bring someone to help you as volunteers may be limited. One advantage to the change will be the ability to adjust what is received based on household size. In the past, only a standard amount was used which was the smallest household size. CSFP Senior Boxes will continue as scheduled for the year. These clients will also receive their TEFAP (USDA) food the same day thereby requiring one less trip to the office for them. Requirements for pickup still include a current ID and a current bill or other mail showing correct address. Permission slips will be required for TEFAP (USDA) if picking up for someone else.
3/10/11 - Welcome to First Baptist Church on 5th and Spring in Russellville as they have chosen to become Members of Good Samaritan! I look forward to meeting their Board members at tonight’s meeting. Also, a big Thank You to Oak Forest Baptist for becoming a Supporting Church! Working together for the good of the community is what we are all about. All support is greatly appreciated.
Speaking of support, the Feinstein Challenge has begun for 2011! Mr. Feinstein (of Rhode Island) challenges food banks to raise as much as they can for themselves during the months of March and April. He then distributes $1,000,000 of his own money between all the food banks that participated. The more we raise, the more of his million we get! This is the only fundraiser we have done for several years now so we need to make it a success. Monetary and food donations both count towards our total. Please write “food” or “Feinstein” on any checks so that we are sure to count it towards this total.
